Low-voltage licensing
Pennsylvania
Pennsylvania does NOT have a state-level low-voltage contractor license. Licensing is municipal - Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and major suburbs each have separate Electrical Contractor licensing. Philadelphia requires registration with the Department of Licenses and Inspections plus an Electrical Examiner credential.
Common pitfalls
Mistakes we see installers make when navigating Pennsylvania licensing.
- No state license - check every municipality where you intend to work.
- Philadelphia and Pittsburgh have substantially different requirements and exams; a Philadelphia license doesn't authorize work in Pittsburgh.
