Low-voltage licensing
Missouri
Missouri does NOT have a state-level low-voltage contractor license. Licensing is municipal: St. Louis City, St. Louis County, Kansas City MO, Springfield, and other jurisdictions each have separate requirements. St. Louis City requires an Electrical Contractor License through the License Collector. Kansas City MO requires a Master Electrician designation plus business registration. Some smaller cities require no contractor license at all.
Regulatory agency
Municipal level only - no state agency
Common pitfalls
Mistakes we see installers make when navigating Missouri licensing.
- Crossing the KS/MO state line in Kansas City requires separate licensing - the Kansas Kansas City and Missouri Kansas City use different agencies.
- St. Louis City and St. Louis County are independent jurisdictions; a city license doesn't authorize work in the county.
- There's no central license lookup - confirm requirements separately with each municipality before bidding work.
