Certification
NICET I-IV (Fire Alarm)
NICET Fire Alarm Systems
Issued by NICET (under NSPE)
The National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) issues a Level I through Level IV tiered certification specifically for Fire Alarm Systems. Higher levels require progressively more documented field experience plus increasingly difficult exams. Many state alarm-licensing programs (Florida, North Carolina, others) explicitly accept NICET Fire Alarm Level II or III as a path to satisfying the state credential requirement.
Who needs this
Fire alarm technicians at every tier. Level II is often the practical minimum for being the technician of record on commercial fire alarm installs.
Prerequisites
Documented field experience scales with level: Level I (entry), Level II (~2 years), Level III (~5 years), Level IV (senior / engineering).
Exam format
Computer-based exam, scenario-driven, code-reference style.
Renewal
3-year recertification cycle with continuing-professional-development requirements.
