National Electrical Contractors Association

NECA is the trade association representing the union electrical contracting industry in the US. Members are typically union shops with electricians signatory to the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW). Beyond the labor relationship, NECA contributes heavily to the National Electrical Code (NEC) committees, publishes installation standards (the NEIS series), and runs project management certification through the NECA Institute.

Founded

1901

Headquarters

Bethesda, MD, US

Approximate membership

~4,000 member firms

Why it matters

If you bid commercial electrical work as a union shop, NECA membership is the path to favorable labor agreements with IBEW locals and access to NECA-trained project managers. Less critical for non-union low-voltage installers.
